Salesforce 101 — Lesson #3: Lightning

You may have heard about companies who are switching from Salesforce Classic to Lightning. While it may sound like people are abandoning Salesforce, they’re actually further integrating it. Lightning is the name of Salesforce’s upgraded platform and has the same functionality as Salesforce Classic. But don’t let that trick you into thinking that nothing has changed. Lightning has added new, exclusive features and fine-tuned standard apps to give users the best experience possible. With more capabilities and data functionalities, there’s a good argument for making the switch to Lightning.

So what makes Lightning so special? Well, for one, it places focus on the user. It also takes the best parts of Salesforce Classic and fine-tunes its functions. Lightning is chalked full of new apps and features that improve efficiency and boost productivity. Before you say goodbye to Salesforce Classic, let’s take a look at what exactly Lightning is, what processes it improves, and why you should consider the switch.

What is Lightning?

The short answer: Lightning is an improved version of Salesforce Classic that focuses on user experience. The name Lightning isn’t just to sound cool. Like the natural phenomenon, the Lightning platform is fast, and no two are the same. Lightning allows users to customize what they see and give them quick access to productivity notes, clear dashboards, and report views. It also allows users to have the same experience on desktop and mobile as they take Salesforce on the road. Lightning makes using Salesforce easier and more efficient for every user in a company.

Home Page

Salesforce has reimagined the home page, giving you a dynamic and intelligent overview. Sales reps can now monitor daily performance and track it against key markers. The home page also makes it easy for users to monitor their tasks and efficiency. The Performance Chart helps users keep their sales goals in mind by displaying it in the center of the home page. The Assistant manages Salesforce tasks by placing the most important actions on the right side of the page. Assistant ensures that you won’t miss deadlines or overlook an action item. On top of the home page standards, it also has an app builder so you can customize your experience. With all these features, the home page allows you to see everything you want and nothing that you don’t.

Lightning can also guide strategic decisions based on your sales trends. Account Insights uses Einstein Analytics to discover patterns in your sales cycles and identify deals that could be at risk. It also lets you know what actions to take to speed up sales and increase retention rates. The bottom line? Account Insights helps you pick up on trends and leads you might otherwise miss.

Reports and Dashboards

The reports function in Lightning is another feature that can be customized for each user. It allows users to place their own filters for each report, making it easy for them to display the data they want. It allows for three columns, a feature not available in the previous version. The best part? You won’t lose any of your reports previously made in Salesforce Classic. Old reports are automatically transitioned to Lightning, share settings and all. It also allows you to create custom Dashboards by simply dragging and dropping. Dashboards include a variety of components like graphs and gauges that will enable you to highlight the most critical data. Overall, Lightning helps to simplify the reporting process and makes it easy to visualize your data.

Making The Switch

If you aren’t quite ready to make the switch, don’t worry. Salesforce Classic isn’t going away. However, you may be missing out on features that could boost your performance and streamline your company. Switching from Salesforce Classic to Lightning has shown an average productivity increase of 41 percent and a 44 percent increase in conversion rates. With its new apps and features, Lightning makes it easier to manage your company and streamline processes. If you already love Salesforce Classic, Lightning is a great way to get more out of your CRM and improve your productivity.
