Salesforce completes Tableau acquisition in less than two months

Aug 5, 2019 | Admin, Latest News, Sales Cloud

The leader in CRM and the leader in BI are together at last.

Salesforce announced Thursday that it has closed its $15.7 billion acquisition of Tableau. Tableau, the #1 data visualization provider, is now positioned to further scale its mission of empowering people to understand data by joining forces with Salesforce. For Salesforce, the deal accelerates its opportunity in the $1.8 trillion digital transformation market through this acquisition. The deal was announced in June and has already been completed as of August 1st—a process that can typically take at least six months or more.

The joining of Salesforce and Tableau has been heralded by multiple outlets as an “enterprise tech force,” “mega acquisition,” and “hybrid cloud company.” The size and swiftness of the deal are undoubtedly impressive. But at Simplus we’re most excited for the new opportunities the deal will bring to Salesforce customers. Data analytics with Salesforce is in for a significant revolution full of impressive enhancements.

“Data is the foundation of every digital transformation, and that’s why we’ve never been more committed to delivering powerful analytics to every user,” said Keith Block, co-CEO of Salesforce. “Tableau will make Salesforce Customer 360, including Salesforce’s analytics capabilities, stronger than ever, enabling our customers to accelerate innovation and make smarter decisions across every part of their business.”

Salesforce has already led the charge on several innovative data initiatives in the past, including Einstein AI and Customer 360. Tableau as an addition will only enhance these already powerful tools to a new level of value for customers. The Simplus Data Practice is eager to see how this acquisition, in addition to previous Salesforce deals like MuleSoft, continues to shape the way data empowers Salesforce customers.
